Away at Croydon last week all sides had mixed results. The U19’s started well with good numbers and played great football in the first half but got run over in the second, keep at it for the remainder of the games this season as your effort is fantastic.
In the reserves game we got off to a slow start and the first half was a real scrappy affair, just three points the difference at the main break with only one goal kicked per side. Croydon started better in the third term and it was only their wayward kicking that kept us in the contest going into the last quarter. Even though we were beaten in the last quarter there is no shame in going down to the team who now sit on top of the ladder. Best players A.Mitchell, A.Poynter, A.Waterhouse and J.Gordon.
The senior match was really a game of two halves, starting well and getting the first two goals on the board the players sensed that they could more than match Croydon, unfortunately we let them get a run on and they kicked five goals and went in at the first break with a 14 point lead. The second quarter was much the same, we were unable to convert our opportunities and Croydon made the most of theirs and increased the lead to 32 points at the main break. Consistency and effort were needed if we didn’t want the game to get away from us and we showed that in the second half, our younger players really lifted to the challenge and through their efforts we managed to get the gap back to just two goals and at the ten minute mark of the final term we actually hit the lead by four points and looked to take the game from Croydon, their senior experienced players steadied and managed to get them back in front and they went on to take the win by just 13 points. Best players N.Winterton, D.Rajab, J.Galvin & C.McLeod.
At home this week against Doncaster East which is a challenge again for the whole club and one we must rise to – Go Waters!!
