Mixed results last week for the club playing Mooroolbark, our newly formed U19 team played four consistent quarters but were against a formidable team who played fantastic football.
Keep your heads up guys as the opposition supporters were highly praising of your effort to play consistently despite the difference in the score, best players Brad Harrington, Lewis Mumford, Connor White and Mitchell Kitson.
Our reserves side needed to make amends for a poor performance the week before and came out a more committed team playing our style of football, leading at every change and taking a comfortable 4-goal win, great effort by Sam Reeves to kick four goals in the windy conditions. Best players Alex Mitchell, Trent Michelson, Kieran Millar and Sam Reeves.
The seniors started out well against last season's grand final side and managed to get the first few goals to take an early lead but in the latter stages of the first quarter Mooroolbark showed why they played off in the grand final kicking four goals to take the lead.
We managed to match their scoreboard pressure throughout the second quarter and our attack on the football was fantastic with Mooroolbark's lead just 11 points at the half-time break.
The third quarter started much the same with both teams continuing to attack the ball and contest and at three-quarter time the game was within our reach with just 15 points the difference.
Despite our best efforts we tired through the last quarter and Mooroolbark managed to get in control of the game and ran away with the win, our backline held up well in the last quarter which was pleasing but we will need to work harder at training over the next fortnight to ensure we get our first win for the season against Doncaster. Best players Damian Murray, Mal McGillivray-Smith, Jack Callanan and Hayden Schroeder.
Back to the rooms after today’s away game for awards and our first players' function - Go Waters!!
